AI와 일기류 자료를 활용한 역사기후자료 분석에 관한 시론 - 『윤치호일기』를 통한 경성부 역사기후자료 분석을 중심으로

A Study on Historical Climate Data Analysis Using AI and Diary Sources : An Analysis of Climate Conditions in Gyeongseong Based on 『Yun Chi-ho’s Diary』

본고는 한국에서 역사기후연구가 어려움을 겪는 상황에 대한 문제의식으로 시작하였다. 이를 해결할 수 있는 수단으로 일기류 자료에서 찾을 수 있는 날씨 자료를 주목하였고, 이를 활용하기 위해 고민하였다. 일기류 자료에서 날씨 자료를 활용하는데 자료적 방대함으로 인한 어려움을 AI를 통해 해결할 수 있는지를 살피면서 연구를 진행하였다. 더 나아가 AI를 활용한 일기류의 날씨 분석 방법을 제시하고, 실제 기후자료와 비교하여 한계점과 가능성을 밝히고자 하였다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 역사기후연구에서 일기류 자료에 담겨있는 날씨 자료가 굉장히 활용가치가 높다는 것을 논증하고자 하였다. 일기류 자료의 날씨 자료를 AI의 텍스트마이닝 기법을 활용해 분석하여, 일기류 자료의 기후정보를 모으는 것이 가능하다는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 그리고 이를 실제 기후정보와 비교하면 높은 일치율을 보인다는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 일치하지 않는 부분에서는 일기류 자료가 가진 주관성과 구체적 수치의 부재라는 한계를 찾을 수 있다. 그런데도 기후정보가 제공하는 내용 이상을 일기류 자료가 밝힐 가능성도 찾을 수 있다. 이를 통해 일기류 자료를 AI로 분석하면서, 역사기후연구의 새로운 가능성을 제시할 수 있다는 것을 밝힌다.

This study begins with a critical awareness of the difficulties facing historical climate research in Korea. As a possible means of addressing these challenges, it focuses on weather-related information found in diary sources and explores ways to utilize such sources effectively. In particular, the study examines whether the problem of the vast volume of diary data can be addressed through the use of artificial intelligence. It further proposes a method for analyzing weather information in diary sources using AI and compares the results with actual climate data in order to identify both limitations and possibilities. Based on these findings, this study aims to demonstrate the high research value of weather-related information contained in diary sources for historical climate studies. By applying AI-based text mining techniques to weather-related data found in diary sources, this study confirms that it is possible to systematically extract and compile climate-related information from such sources. Comparison with actual climate data shows a high level of consistency, while discrepancies reveal inherent limitations of diary sources, such as subjectivity and the lack of precise quantitative data. Nevertheless, the analysis also suggests that diary sources may reveal aspects of climate information that go beyond what is available in conventional climate data. Ultimately, this study demonstrates that AI-based analysis of diary sources can open new possibilities for historical climate research.
