The Purple Miracle Forged by Red Passion: An Exploration of Fan Identity Formation through the Legacy of FC Anyang Supporters A.S.U. RED

본 연구는 K리그 서포터즈 유산(Legacy)을 통한 팬 정체성(Identity) 형성에 관한 탐구로 서포터즈 문화 계승 차원의세대 간 연속성에 초점을 맞추며, 지속가능한 발전의 시사점을 도출하는데 그 목적이 있다. 특히, 국내외적으로 독보적인 서사를 지닌 FC안양 서포터즈 A.S.U. RED를 중심으로 이들의 문화적 패턴을 도출하고자 Spradley (1980)가제안한 DRS(Developmental Research Sequence)분석 기법을 활용하여 다음의 연구 결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, ‘지역과 문화의 교차점’. 둘째, ‘문화 활동을 통한 자아 발견’. 셋째, ‘문화 실천 주체로서의 확립’. 넷째, ‘세대 간 문화계승과 지속가능성’이다. 본 연구의 결과는 서포터즈의 유산과 팬 정체성 형성 간의 선순환적 구조 패턴이 존재함을보여주었다. 이러한 결과는 문화의 계승은 구성원들의 지속적인 경험과 실천 속에서 자연스럽게 체화되는 과정임을보여준다. 나아가 특정 세대를 넘어 공유될 수 있는 서사와 문화를 형성하고 보존하는 일은 세대 간 정체성의 연속성을 강화하며, 이는 서포터즈의 지속가능성을 담보하는 기반으로 작용할 수 있음을 시사한다.

This study examines the formation of fan identity through the legacy of K League supporters, emphasizing intergenerational continuity in supporter culture and its implications for sustainable development. Focusing on A.S.U. RED, the supporters group of FC Anyang, recognized for its distinctive narrative both domestically and internationally, this research identifies the cultural patterns embedded in their practices. Using Spradley’s (1980) Developmental Research Sequence (DRS) framework, the analysis generated four themes: (1) intersection of region and culture, (2) self-discovery through cultural activities, (3) establishment as cultural agents, and (4) intergenerational cultural inheritance and sustainability. The findings reveal a virtuous cyclical relationship between supporters’ legacy and the formation of fan identity, demonstrating that supporter culture is naturally embodied through members’ continuous experiences and practices. Furthermore, the formation and preservation of shared narratives and cultural practices across generations reinforce the continuity of identity, thereby providing a foundation for the long-term sustainability of supporter communities.
