Distinguishing Human Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence through Complexity Literacy

This study inquires into the epistemological differences between human intelligence and artificial intelligence to consider how to transition English education in the age of AI. The study examines how artificial intelligence operates and what differentiates human intelligence from it. The author identifies a unique human competency and names it as complexity literacy, ability to read, understand, and address complexity. To enhance complexity literacy in English education, the author proposes a pedagogical design anchored on student-centered learning activities, such as reading aloud, marathon reading, and peer discussion.
