영어 SVI와 SAI의 발생조건 비교(II)

The purpose of this paper is to compare some restrictions on English SVI(Subject- Verb Inversion) and SAI(Subject-Auxiliary Inversion), In the paper( I ) (~ 2003b) I review that there are some constraints on felicitous inversion at a sentence level. In this paper I examine the restrictions on felicitous inversion at a discourse level. This paper suggests that cognitive and discoursal factors are distinctively involved in conditions on the two types of inversions. It is shown that felicitous SVI are strongly affected by cognitive factors, like as perspectives, subjectivity, displaced immediacy and discoursal factors, like discourse familiarity and informativity of the main verb. It is also shown that felicitous SAI are strongly affected by cognitive factors like iconicity principle and discoursal factors like topical progression. Finally, discoursal factors like text strategies were shown to affect both SVI and SAI.(Gyeongsang University)
