Effects of various mushrooms on body lipid metabolism in rats

This study was designed to observe the effects of Shiitake(Lentinus edoders), Fungus (Pleurotus), Mushroom(Agaricus campestris), among dietary mushroom on body lipid components in male eats. The results obtains in the study are summarized as follows: 1. Body weight gain and Feed Efficiency Ratio (F.E.R) of shiitake group were significantly lower than those of other experimental groups. 2. All the mushroom used to for feeding experiments significantly lowered serum cholesterol level, and the hypocholesterolemic effect of shiitake (Lentinus edodes), and Mushroom (Agricus campestris) were more significant than that of Fungus(Pleurotus ostreatus). 3. Feeding of the mushroom also significantly decrease plasma trilyceride level and plasma HDL-cholesterol level. 4. There was a decreasing trend in the contents of liver cholesterol and triglyceride in the all group fed mushroom, however the differences between the experimental groups were not statistically significant.
