The impacts of home management courses on the managerial behavior of college students

The purpose of this study was to investigate the possible impacts of home management courses on the managerial behaviors of college students employing a quasi experimental design. The experiments were done in two different settings. The first experiment was to see if there was any change in students managerial behavior after taking home management theory course. The subjects for the experiment consist of 90 students, 46 of which took the course and belonged to the treatment group. The second experiment was to see if home management practice course might also affect managerial behavior of the students. The treatment group for this experiment consisted of 32 students who took the course, and the control group consisted of 31 students who did not take course. The data were collected through questionaires before and after the treatments. The data analysis showed that overall managerial behaviors of the treatment groups were significantly different from the control groups. Specifically, (1) students who took the theory course showed higher scores in planning activities, (2) students who took the practice course showed higher scores in controlling activities, and (3) students who took the theory or the practice course showed higher scores in both controlling and organizing activities.
