The Effect of Sports on Fashion Design - from 18C to present -

The purpose of this study was to research characteristics of sports that effect on fashion design, and analyze influences to fashion design of sports in funtional and aesthetic aspects. For this purpose, theoretical studies about characteristics of sports and the documentary research about the effect of sports on fashion design were accomplished fashion magazines and documents. The results were as follows: First, influencial characteristics of sports to fashion design were, 1) sport goes into thoroughly funtionalism, 2) sport goes into thoroughly physical beauty through excercise, and 3) sports get accomplished by participations of people, the participation has various types. Second, in the aspect of functionalism, effects of sports on fashion design are, 1) sports affected simplified and casualized women's costume, and caused exposure of women's legs, 2) sports accelerated improvement of funtional textiles, and 3)j sports developed various items of costume. Third, in the aspect of aesthtic, effects of sports on fashion design are, 1)sports made various color combination which express sporty image. 2) sports originated character were, and 3) sports developed various sporty image in accordance with the spirit of the time.
