The purpose of this study is to explore the effect sex-role attitude and sex-role identity on the housework sharing and marital satisfaction in dual-earner couples. The data of this study had been collected from a sample consisting of 370 dual-earner couples who live in Seoul city or Kyoungki Do. The structured questionnaires, separated for husband and wife, had been collect from May to July, 1994. Major findings are as follows : First, the level of housework sharing between husband and wife is very low, but the husband's flexible sex-role attitude and wife's masculine sex-role identity encourage the husband to share housework more. Second, the wives' marital satisfaction is lower than the husbands' marital satisfaction. The wife's marital satisfaction is positively influenced by housework sharing, her androgynous sex-role identity, and faminine sex-role identity. But the husband's marital satisfaction is not influenced by housework sharing, but is positively influenced by his androgynous sex-role identity and his flexible sex-role attitude. This study suggests that we need education programs that can encourage men and women to have flexible sex-role attitude and androgynous sex-role identity.
