The Adolescent Problems and the NEed for Parent Counseling/Education, based on the Survey of Adolescent's Counseling Teachers & Parents

This study attempts to explore the adolescent problems and the need for parent counseling/education, based on the survey of adolescent's counseling teachers and parents, and to give empirical base for the development of adolescent's parent education program. The data of this study had been collected from the sample of 78 adolescent's counseling teachers and 152 adolescent's parents. The structured self-administrating questionnaires had been used. Major findings are as follows: Teachers answered that adolscents' major problems are friend relationships, future career, academic achievement, school maladjustment, and dating. But these problems are different according to school types. Adolescents complain that their parents control their life, compare them with peer group, and distrust in their friends. Adolescents also complain about their parent problems. Parents worry about adolescent's run away from home, smoking, stopping studying, drinking, moral immaturity, sexual curiosity, and dating. Both teachers and parents need parent education program which reflect various kinds of adolescent problems according to school types. This study suggests that adolescent's parent education programs should be developed to be helpful for adolescents, teachers, and parents.
