A Study on Color Preference by the regional characteristics of Women's Wear

The purpose of this study is to investigate the color preference of women living in Seoul, to provide materials which is useful for setting up the color plan for a better costume, and to suggest new information in the apparel study. This study is done on the basis of color preference only by regional characteristics and the range of this study restricted on women' clothes. The subjects of this research are 2344 women photographed in the street. The data are analyzed by frequency, percentage and x²-test. The results of this study are as follows: The preference of chromatic color and achromatic color, tint and tone, pattern of textiles are different mainly by regional characteristics. 1. Women prefer achromatic colors to chromatic colors. The most preferred achromatic color is black, especially women of YOUNGDUOPO LOTTE area prefer black. 2. Analysis of hue shows that blue, red and yellow red are commonly preferred by women. Blue is most preferred color in the all areas. 3. Analysis of tone shows that vivid, pale, dark tones are commonly preferred by women. Especially women of APGUJUNGDONG area have specially inclination, they prefer vivid, pale, light tone. 4. Analysis of pattern of textiles shows that, pattern textiles are preferred by women of APGUJUNGDONG area. The most preferred pattern for women of YOUNGDUOPO and MYUNGDONG LOTTE is a flower, whereas women of APGUJUNGDONG area prefer a stripe pattern.
