This paper is aimed whether it is necessary to improve and revise the Family Register System, in case the Household System is abolished, or not. And it is also aimed, if necessary, how to change the Family Register System. To comprehend the former point, it is necessary to clear up the mutual relation of the Household System in Civil Law and the Family Register System in Family Register Law. On the other hand, the Standard Family Register System, the Individual Register System and the Unitary System with the Resident Registration are presented as an alternative system relating to the latter point. However, the previous researches have been focusing upon the idea that the Household System is one thing, and the Family Register System is quite another. Therefore, it feels that there is a tendency toward reality and expediency in seeking after alternatives. But this paper is sought to understand logical necessity shout the change of the Family Register System. In conclusion. the Individual Register System is the most reasonable institutional device to look forward individual human dignity and equality between the sexes in the true sense of abolition of the Household System.
