The purpose of this study is to establish measuring method of the fuel injection rate, which has related with the spray characteristics and has greatly effected on the combustion rate in diesel engine. In this paper, the measurement of fuel injection rate is acted by using the principle of W. Bosch's long tube method and is studied to correlations between the fuel injection rate and the rate of heat release according to the various operating conditions. The obtained results are as follows: 1. The appratus of fuel injection rate made for this study can assurely utilize for measuring the fuel injection rate. 2. If fuel injection quantity is constant, the fuel injection period is increased due to rising engine revolution, but the peak of fuel injection rate is decreased. And in the case of constant engine revolution, regardless of the fuel injection quantity, the initial fuel injection rate is almost constant. 3. The injection pressure isn't largely influenced with the fuel injection rate in the case of constant fuel injection quantity and engine revolution, but the more engine revolution is increased, the more fuel injection rate peak is increase:d with the injection pressure. 4. Relations between the rate of heat release and the fuel injection rate aren't nearly influenced with the fuel injection quantity, the engine revolution and the injection pressure. But if the fuel injection timing is changed, the rate of heat release is greatly changed.
