This study was conducted to evaluate the treatment efficiencies of low strength wastewater by using anhybrid reactor, which is combining Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket and Anaerobic Filter reactor. Some results from this study were summarized as follows. Using the Anhybrid process the low strength wastewater like municipal sewage could be treated with 85% T-COD removal efficiency at hydraulic retention time of 6 hours. At the constant organic loading of 0.5kg COD/㎡, day, organic removal efficiency and effluent COD concentration are proportionally increased as influent COD concentration ranged from 125mg/l to 500mg/l. Mixing effects on organic removal efficiency are evident and optimum mixing speed is found to be 50 rpm. Placing the granular sludge and the media on which slime layer was pre-formed into the reactor seemed to be very effective in achieving short start-up period, and thus steady state was acheived after 4 weeks and 1 week based on T-COD and S-COD, respectively. Final clarifier may not be needed, because of low suspended solids in the effluent.
