An Empirical Study on Strenthening Kocean Port Competitivness By Knowledge Management Model

This study defines four factors which effect port competitiveness by using Knowledge-Management Model established by Kalplan and NortOn. The K - M Model used in the study is useful in identity the successful factors of port competitiveness. The four factors indicated in the above model are the internaJ organization process factor, financial factor, port-service factor, knowledge management strategy /adnrinistrative factor. According to the results drawn from the four factors included in the K - M Model analysis and projected actual competitiveness is extremely high. However, actuaJ comjH:itiveness is somewhat low. Therefore, actual projected competitiveness level of the Korean port should be considered low as well.' Also the four factors of K -M Model have a close association to national competitiveness, contribution to the regional economy, corresponding capahilities of the externaJ environment and internal environment, the importance of foreign port development as well as the importance of the North Korea port development and finally the port organization reform. However, there was no relevance to the local government. It is important to note and consider the following in examining the results nf the test and the aforementioned association. First, the variations, which affect the contribution of nationaJ competitiveness is port strategy including capital supply and port opemtion. Second, the contribution of the regional economy and its relevance to port operation Third, how the correslJO/lding capability of the externaI environment relates to the port services and port capability. FinaJly, the corresponding capability of internal environment also effects port strategy.
