Colonial exploitation and economic development were not conflictive. The reason was that imperialist countries pursued a maximization of long-term profits, which generates economic development if the majority of colonial inhabitants adapt themselves to the process to make their own life comfortable. The optimum obtains when both sides of the colonial government and the colonial people mutually understood their systems and technologies. After independence, the Korean govenunent did not follow the same policy of the colonial government but some of her policies were very similar with the previous colonial government's, which appear to me as the results of the Korean government's optimization behavior.
1. Synchronism of exploitation and development 2. Maximization of long-term profits 3. Interaction between imperial countries and people in colonies 4. Development in post-colonial period and colonial experiences 5. Beyond exploitation and development References Abstract
