This paper places the focus on the comparative approach of Vipassana and Ganwha Meditation. Generally speaking, Vipassana is a traditional buddhist practice in southern Asia. But on the other hand Ganwha Meditation is a northern buddhist practice. In the theory of knowledge, Vipassana puts it around the concept of 'Dhamma' of the early Buddhism. This 'Dhamma' is to be denied the concept of ego, Atman. But matter, consciousness(mind), mental factors comprise all conditioned realities. These things are regarded as the ultimate realities from the ontological and the epistemological angle. But Ganwha Meditation is based on the nature of the things characterized by Mahayana Buddhist. They made a public denial of the concept of the Abhidhamma philosophy. The thought of the Chan sect succeed to the thought of the Buddhahood and the critism philosophy of Mahayana Buddhism. In the theory of practice, Vipassana admit the object explained in the satipatthanasuta, that is body, sense feeling, mind, phenomenon. Meditator try to see the nature of the things as impermanent, non-substance, suffering. But Ganwha Meditation eliminate the object relation from the practical field. The another say, They deny the traditional belief that there are worldly passions, objects, dhamma Therefore if Vipassana is the way of affirmation, Ganwha Meditation is the way of negation.
