A Survey on the fields of engagement in business of the graduates from the College of Maritime Sciences, KMU

This paper aims to investigate the fields of engagement in business of the graduates from the College of Maritime Sciences, Korea Maritime University, and to guide the students mapping out their future. This study analyzed the graduates for 20 years (from 21st to 39th), and the present jobs of 2,108 graduates were available. The fields of engagement in business of the graduates from the College are so diversified, so it was not easy to classify the fields. The majority(75%) of the graduates are engaged in maritime fields including shipping company and the merchant marine officers. Nevertheless, the number of graduates who is working on board is not surveyed throughly, it indicates that the graduates tend to divert to shore jobs. Therefore it is necessary that the College should take a step to adjust the present curricula considering their requirements form the fields of engagement in business of the graduates.
