The purpose of the present study was to develop a new leisure constraint scale by modifying the one originally proposed by Crawford and Godbey(l987). The new constraint scale was designed to measure constraints on suspended leisure activities as well as those on new leisure activities. The subjects consisted of 129 male and 116 female students from three universities located in Seoul and Kangwon-Do. They were contacted by email and surveyed using an on-line questionnaire. An exploratory factor analysis revealed that the 24 items in the proposed scale could be grouped into eight factors of constraint on leisure such as `difficulty,` `facility inconvenience,` `lack of time,` `lack of courage,` `self-consciousness,` `lack of interest,` `cognitive dissonance,` and `physical barriers.` Also the provided results were the applications of the scale and suggestions for future studies.
