생산/운영 전략 초점과 초기조건이 기업성과에 미치는 효과 - IMF 위기를 전후한 한국 철강메이커의 전략행보를 중심으로

본 논문에서는 초기조건에 기초한 전략적 초점의 산물이 기업성과라는 인식 하에 위기상황에서는 부채 규모를 줄이려는 외형적인 노력과 더불어 기술개발과 생산활동에 더욱 집중해야 한다는 명제를 강조한다. 그리고 IMF 충격을 전후한 한국 철강제조업체들의 경험에 기초한 실증분석은 기업간의 전략적 초점의 차이가 얼마나 유의적인 기업성과상의 차이를 가져왔는가를 명쾌하게 보여준다.

This study emphasizes that a firm’s strategic focus must be contingent, and in a turbulent environment firm should strategically focus on technological innovative efforts within or outside the firm to be more competitive by improving the productivity. An empirical study on that has shown how the heterogeneity of strategic focus among the Korean Steel Companies before and after the IMF crisis has given rise to big difference in firm performance among them by identifying that firm performance is considered as the outcome of the strategic focus during the given period of time based on the initial condition at the given point in time.
