A national pension system should not only offer the life security for old people but also be complemented to be able to play an important role in helping them lead secure lives as a safe social device.<BR> This paper reviewed private pension systems in advanced countries such as USA, England, Japan and presented the desirable and rational introduction direction of the pension system through structural analysis by types of major factors which consist of pension system.<BR> As the result of the rapid economic development and the change in industrial structure, people`s concerns for security in old age and after retirement is increasing.<BR> In Korea, institutional devices for old age security are national pension system and retiring allowance system. However, the former is limited only to minimum living standard security as a social security system and the latter is not sufficient for security on account of structural problems such as unsatisfactory security of workers vesting and increasing burden in company. Therefore Korea requires the introduction of private pension system in order to supplement the benefit level of national pension system and provide the benefit security of retiring pension.
