Dongsungi(Record of Dongsun) is a romance in the war and written, estimatedly, in the middle seventeenth century. It is recognized that the seventeenth century is a great changing period in the history of novel, and from this viewpoint, Dongsungi(Record of Dongsun) is worthy of note. Its distinctive characters are below:
First, dealing with `the age of losing` after the Japanese Invasion and the Mahchu Invasions, its writing style is affected by the Fairy Tale and the Popular Versions of historical texts in the genre of China.
Second, it reflected the miserable life in the war by using the technique of crisscrossing the realistic and fantastic aspects.
Third, although it is in the tradition of romance as a whole, Dongsungi(Record of Dongsun) somewhat breaks away from the convention of romance in the plotting and characterizing, and even build a preceding feature toward an oncoming novel written in hangul (e.g. The Cloud Dream of Nine).
For a result, Dongsungi(Record of Dongsun) is not only showing the change and deconstruction of romance also having much relations with the novels in the late seventeenth century.
