『삼국유사』의 인용자료와 이야기의 중층성 - 초기 서사의 구축형태에 주목하여

이 글은 기본적으로 초기 서사물이 많이 남아있지 않은 현실을 감안하되, 그나마 남아있는 자료를 통해서 초기 서사의 지형을 역추적하는 작업의 일환으로 기획되었다. 그 대상은 『삼국유사』이다. 『삼국유사』에는 다양한 자료가 동원되어 하나의 이야기가 구축된 예가 매우 많다. 찬자는 당대까지 축적된 관련 자료를 ‘조합’ 또는 ‘분절’, 그리고 ‘재배치’를 하여 『삼국유사』를 찬술했는데, 이 과정에서 서사성이 짙은 자료들이 망라되기에 이르렀다. 이런 결과로 『삼국유사』는 『삼국사기』와는 변별되는 역사서로 꾸려질 수 있었고, 그 사이에 서사적 골격을 갖춘 자료들이 상당수 포섭되기에 이르렀다. 요컨대 『삼국유사』는 삼국시대부터 고려시대 중기까지의 서사 관련 자료의 集積이라 해도 과언이 아니다. 그런데 이런 집적은 일률적이지 않아 대략 네 가지 방식을 취하고 있다. 이 중 특히 둘 이상의 자료가 동원되어 ‘인물’이나 ‘사건’에 대한 내용의 어떤 결을 느끼게 하는 작품이 주목된다. 「太宗春秋公」ㆍ「圓光西學」ㆍ「郁面婢念佛西昇」 등이 대표적이다. 이틀 작품은 편차가 적지 않은 둘 이상의 자료가 동원된 예이다. 따라서 이들 작품을 읽다보면 하나의 대상인데도 그 안에서 다양한 서사적 층위를 실감할 수 있다.<BR> 결과적으로 『삼국유사』에는 초기 서사의 양태라고 할 만한 자료들이 시기와 성격을 달리한 채 복잡하게 얽혀져 있다. 특히 이들 자료 중에서 초기 서사의 범위에서 논의할 수 있는 자료들이 적지 않은 바, 해당 자료들의 성격이 일률적이지 않음을 알 수 있다. 이는 초기 서사의 지형이 단순하지 않다는 점에서 매우 고무적인 문제제기라고 판단된다. 그리고 이런 점에서 앞으로 이에 대한 본격적인 논의가 필요하다.

In this paper, I tried to trace the phase of the early narrative back on actual data, considering that we have few early narratives. The subject of this study is Sam-guk-yu-sa. In Sam-guk-yu-sa, there are many cases that a story was made of various materials. The writer made Sam-guk-yu-sa mixing, cutting, or reassigning accumulated related-data. In this process it contained all stories which had strong narrative characters. As a result, Sam-guk-yu-sa could become a history book dissimilar to Sam-guk-sa-ki and contain a lot of data having a narrative frame. In a word, it is no exaggeration to say that Sam-guk-yu-sa is an accumulation of narrative data from the period of the Three Kingdoms to the middle of Koryo. But each accumulation doesn`t have a same form. They are generally divided into four types. Among them I specially gave attention to stories which are made of two data or more and have some texture of meaning about incidents and characters. Typical stories are 「Taeiong-Chunchu-kong」 「Wonkwang-seohak」 「Woongmyun-bi-yeombul-seoseong」 etc. In cases of these stories, the writer weaved characters and related incidents into a story bringing two data or more-there is a great difference between them-together. Therefore looking through each story, we can see various phases though it is one piece of narrative work.<BR> As things turned out, I confirmed the fact that materials-of various periods and characters-as early narratives are entangled complicatedly. Especially I refer to the fact that, among them, there are a lot of data we can discuss within the category of the early narrative, and their characters are not same. I think it is very important question for that the phase of the early narrative is not simple. Serious discussions about this question are necessary.
