‘許生故事’와 북벌인식의 추이 - 자료 「仙遊洞記」를 통해서

이 글은 「仙遊洞記」라는 자료를 소개하고 그와 관련된 몇 가지 점을 점검, 조선후기 서사문학사의 구도를 새롭게 환기시키고자 기획되었다.「선유동기」는 조선후기에 연변된 이른바 ‘許生故事’와 밀접한 관련이 있는 작품이다. 「許生傳」으로 대표되는 허생에 관한 이야기는 士의 현실, 상품경제의 동향, 북벌논의 등 조선후기 사회적인 이슈들을 반영한 문제적인 작품군이다. 이 허생고사류에 해당되는 「선유동기」는 그간 학계에 소개되지 않은 작품이다. 그런데 이 작품을 전반부와 후반부로 나눌 때, 전반부는 그야말로 기존의 알려진 허생고사류의 연변선상에 있지만, 후반부는 그렇지 않다. 이 후반부에는 다른 허생고사류 작품에선 찾아볼 수 없는 북벌에 관한 문제가 매우 입체적으로 묘사되어 있다. 분량도 전체의 반 이상을 차지하는 이 후반부는 특히 조선후기(주로 18세기) ‘북벌론’의 추이를 살펴보는데 매우 중요한 자료인 셈이다. 한편, 「선유동기」는 다른 허생고사류가 한문단편 서사임에 비해, 전통적인 소설적 기법을 이용하여 분량과 편폭을 확장시키고 있다. 이런 형식적인 측변은 허생고사의 연변 양상의 최대치를 보여준다는 점에서 주목된다. 더불어 「선유동기」는 조선후기 이념화의 한 축이었던 북벌론을 서사화한 ‘담론의 서사’라 할 수 있겠다. 요컨대 「선유동기」는 조선후기 서사양식의 연변 과정을 살펴보는데 중요한 실례인 것이다.

In this paper, I introduced material of 「Seon-yu-dong-gi」 and tried checking some matters connected with it. 「Seon-yu-dong-gi」 has a close relation to stories about Heo-saeng which were popular in the later Chosen dynasty. Various stories about Heo-saeng, represented by 「Heo-saeng-jeon」, reflected social issues of the later Chosen dynasty, for example, the real conditions of the gentry, a trend of commodity economy, and discussion on an expedition to conquer the north.<BR> 「Seon-yu-dong-gi」 is one of stories about Heo-saeng and has not been mentioned in the academic circles yet. The whole story can be divided into two parts. The first half of it is similar to a general story about Heo-saeng, But the second half of it is different from another stories about Heo-saeng. The matter of an expedition to conquer the north is described well from many angles in the second half. The quantity of the second part accounts for more than half in the whole actually. Specially this is very important material in studying the change of discussion on an expedition to conquer the north in the 18th century.<BR> By the way, 「Seon-yu-dong-gi」 enlarged its quantity using traditional technique of the novel. On the other hand, another stories about Heo-saeng are only short stories in classical Chinese. This aspect of form shows the maximum quantity of a story about Hee-saeng. It is also a narrative of the doctrine, an expedition to conquer the north, which was an axis of ideologies of the later Chosen dynasty. I think 「Seon-yu-dong-gi」 is very important material in studying the productive process of a narrative-pattern in the later Chos?n dynasty.
