New religious movements in all probability arise in the wake of `disasters`; and a disaster by definition does not single out any socioeconomic class or classes, but often hits an entire society. Therefore, it is too impressionistic statement that a new religion is a religion of the oppressed. New religious movements gather their momentum when disaster victims search for alternative worldviews after seeing that both disaster control systems and traditional religions have failed. That is, new religious movements arise not on the basis of any class consciousness, but of heightened suggestibility as a part of disaster syndrome. This explains the reason why most of new religions do not support such class-based phenomena as labor movements or any leftist campaigns. Truly, new religious movements are not class phenomena.
