To summarize, the lessons from the cases of divorce appearing in the Old and New Testaments are that; 1) God dislikes the repeated practice of divorce. 2) A bill of divorce is to be written when it is absolutely impossible for the couple to reconcile because of a disgraceful matter, and 3) when divorce is inevitable for a religious reason, one should choose a solution appropriate to God`s intention. 4) Jesus` instructions on divorce gives a strict warning against men`s wicked behavior, dismissing their wives for any reason, 5) Christians may divorce, but it should be based on peace.
In conclusion, divorce is not the will of God who created humans in the context of relationship but it occurs because of human`s wicked broken behavior. Accordingly, we need to counsel those whose marital relationships have failed, whatever the reason. Pastorally we need to seek out and stand with the broken people left by divorce.
The counselor may help in confidence those who have difficulty with decisions over their marriage. He can help them by informing them what life after divorce is like, and possible problems to be faced.
