This article examines the possibility of using counseling in the context of cross-cultural mission.<BR> When a missionary goes to a foreign country he can develop hostile feelings against the culture of his host country because it clashes with his own culture. He will experience culture shock. Although initially he may enjoy the new culture eventually his curiosity will become exhausted.<BR> Culture shock may manifest itself as symptoms of stress. A missionary needs to overcome all the anxieties he feels in the new culture. Counseling can help reduce to stress of living in the new culture and accelerate the process of adaptation. His faith is the channel of hope through which counseling can help him overcome despair.<BR> A counselor must help the missionary identify the areas where he is finding it difficult to adapt to the new culture. A counselor can help the missionary improve his interrelationships with the people of the host country. This enables the missionary to present the gospel faithfully.<BR> In conclusion, for cross-cultural mission to be effective com¬munication between missionary and host people must be unhindered by cross-cultural conflict. Counseling using transactional analysis is considered key to successful cross-cultural mission.
