정약용의 ‘역易’해석에서 복서卜筮의 방법과 활용

정약용은 ‘역易’이 만들어진 동기가 성인聖人이 천명天命을 받아 따르기 위한 것이요, 천명을 묻기 위해 점치는[卜筮] 방법이 만들어졌다고 밝힌다. 그는 ‘복서’를 통해 인간이 천天[神]의 뜻을 알고 천天의 뜻에 따라 자신의 삶을 운용한다는 유교의 종교적 세계를 가장 풍부하게 드러내주고 있다. 그러나 그는 더 이상 ‘복서’가 천명을 묻는 방법으로 써서는 안 된다는 강조하여, ‘복서’를 고대의 신앙적 실천방법으로 한정시킴으로써, ‘복서卜筮’의 고대적 신앙과 자기 시대의 신앙 사이에 단절적 인식을 확인하고 있다. 또한 그는 ‘易’을 허물을 고치고 선으로 나아가는[改過遷善] 글이라 하여, ‘뉘우침[悔]’의 의미를 중시한다. ‘뉘우침’은 마음속을 성찰하는 신앙의 내성적 조건으로 하늘을 향해 천명을 받드는 믿음에 상응하는 것으로 주목한다.

Cheong yagyong clarifies that Yi(易) was made by saints for the purpose of discerning and following the Heaven’s mandate(天命) and that divination method was made in order to ask it. He efficiently shows the religious world of confucianism that each human being discerns and follows the Heaven’s will in his own life through Bushi(divination, 卜筮). However, he insists that Bushi(divination, 卜筮) should not be used as the way of asking Heaven`s mandate. Thus he limits Bushi(divination, 卜筮) within the ancient practice of belief system and confirms difference between the ancient belief system and his contemporary one. He also emphasizes the meaning of repentance(悔) on the ground that Yi(易) is regarded as the book for the correction of one’s faults(改過遷善). Repentance is stressed because of its connection with the faith of following Heaven’s mandate and with the inner condition of faith reflecting one’s inner life.
