루이스 칸 建築의 보자르적 解析

This study investigates the reinterpretation of architectural ideas brought by the Beaux-Arts` Tradition in Louis Kahn`s planar form. Through the notion of Beaux-Arts design method, the study approaches the planning concepts of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and American version of Beaux-Arts` training by Paul P. Cret, whose skill is an interpreter to design historic style without duplicating details and motifs from existing buildings. Because of Cret`s importance to Kahn`s formative years at school, his goal of a Beaux-Arts education deserves summary here. The key assumption is that Kahn`s reliance upon Beaux-Arts axial organization depends not only on his architectural education shaped by American Beaux-Arts system emphasizing reason, construction, and classical examples but also on its transformation and progressive development from the design principles focusing on the expression of parti which is planning idea and poche to indicate structure. The Beaux-Arts design method is transformed through his own approach to creating personal style reflecting certain modern values.
