Paul P. Cret, as the teacher and architect who worked in America was important person in architectural establishment in American climate, and he was also a modern architect who inherited tradition of Beaux-Arts in French. The tradition of Beaux-Arts was threatened simultaneously with a neo-classical atrophy, individualistic interpretations. Paul P. Cret, with his Beaux-Arts faith in the classicism and in the effectiveness of rational solutions to design, proposed to revitalize the orders by interpreting them in term of the modern steel frame. As a result, he embraced some of the tenets of the modernist or International style that were antithetical to the formalist and historicist principles of the Beaxu-Arts tradition. As a teacher and practitioner during a complex era of transition from Beaux-Arts historicism to modernist functionalism, he synthesized old and new aesthetics. At this point, the purpose of this study was to analyze the connection between his architectural thoughts and his characteristics of works in American tradition. Therefore, It lies on the deeper understanding of his modern classicism represented on the case studies of Cret`s architectural education and architectural theory, the unique architectural composition methods of Beaux-Arts in his works were investigated to clarity his architectural value.
