이 글은 장승두(張承斗)가 쓴 「朝鮮古代社會に於ける拜火思想と婚姻制度の淵源に關する考察」(朝鮮 279~280, 朝鮮總督府, 1938. 8~9.)을 번역한 것이다. 장승두의 이 글은 우리 나라 혼인제도의 기원을 배화(拜火)사상과 연관지어 논의한 것이다. 고대에 있어서 배화(拜火)ㆍ배일(拜日)사상은 사회제도상의 기초를 이루는 것이며, 그 가족제도는 씨불(Cibul)을 중심으로 한 것이고, 그 씨불(Cibul)에 대한 제사가 혼인제도의 발생 연원이며, 고대사회에 대한 수수께끼를 해명하는 열쇠는 그 신앙을 규명하는 데 있다는 것이 장승두의 결론이다. 장승두의 글은 혼인제도 관련논문으로는 이능화나 최남선의 연구성과와 함께 비교적 초기의 업적에 속하는 것임은 물론 관점이 개성적이어서 이 방면 연구자들이 읽어야 할 필요가 있으나 일어논문이라서 그런지 아직 제대로 소개하거나 거론된 적이 없다. 역자는 장승두가 쓴 단군신화와 주몽신화 관련 일어논문을 이미 번역해 소개한 적이 있는데, 그 후속작업으로 이 글을 옮겼다.
This is a translation of 張承斗‘s 〈朝鮮古代社會に於けろ拜火思想と婚姻制度の淵源に關すろ考察](朝鮮 279~280, 朝鮮總督府, 1938. 8~9.〉. The author talks about the origin of Korean wedding ceremony in regard to Korean 拜火思想(an idea of worshiping fire) and 拜日思想(an idea of worshiping the sun). The ancient Korean society was based on these two ideas. His conclusion is that in order to study Korean ancient society, we have to study these ancient ideas. His study is an early work of wedding ceremonies studies. His claim that ancient Korean people thought of fire as a seed,`Ci-bul(씨불)`, is a new approach to the study of Korean wedding ceremonies. He said that this idea of `a seed of fire` greatly helped form Korean ancient societies. Unfortunately, his good work of this Korean ancient society has never been properly introduced or discussed since his work was written in Japanese.
