This study amis to discover the meaning and aesthetic basis of everyday-ness in contemporary architecture. It explores the architectural efforts and results to enhance the quality of everyday people life since the Modern Movement, such as the democracy of the arts, socialism in the early modern architecture, the defamiliarization effect of the avant-garde arts and populism in populist architectures. Consequently, it suggests that architecture is a cultural phenomenon produced in everyday life by ordinary people ; therefore the aesthetic basis should be taken from everyday-ness, which is based on experience common to all of us at a number of stages in our lives. Communal sensibility is suggested as a device that can reintegrate everyday life with aesthetic experience.
