Immediately before a training or performance there is a warming-up phase which is neither ordinary experience nor the performance itself. It is transitional from everyday life to creating or participating in the training or performance. This preliminary functions to precondition performers physically and psychologically for a more effective acting state. The means of warm-ups can be classified into two types of physical warm-ups and psychological warm-ups.
Physical warm-ups raise the body and muscle temperatures thus facilitating enzyme activity. This, in turn, increases the metabolism of the skeletal muscle and lessens physical dangers such as muscle and joint injuries and the consequences of inadequate blood flow. In other words, physical warms promote physical energy-up to increase maximal performing efficiency. The sequence of basic physical warm-up, with different emphases, is nearly universal. It goes from stretching exercises to calisthenics to skill exercises and may also employ passive(massage, hot shower) as well as active means.
Psychological warm-ups help performers meet one another on stage in a condition of total confrontation or total involvement. In practice, psychological warm-up exercises are classified into two kinds of meditation and game types. The meditation type includes three groupings of concentration meditation, opening-up(mindfulness) meditation and a combination of both.
