It was shown in this study that the gap control method, a solution for the color separation problem in integral imaging, couldbe implemented not only by making the lens array closer than the focal length but also by making it farther than the focallength. Besides, analysis was done by comparing two gap control methods through simulation and experimentation. It wasverified that color separation is eliminated using the gap control method, and criteria for the reduction of the color separationproblem were given by analyzing the spatial frequency. The analysis and simulation results suggest that the expressible depthrange is generally superior when the real-type gap control method is adopted. The experiment results supporting the analysiswere also presented.
