<신유복전> 異本 <천정연분>의 변이 양상과 의미(1) -영웅의 서사에서 결연과 가족의 서사로-

The transfiguration aspect of the <Cheonjeongyeonbun>, different edition of <Sinyubokjeon> (1)

<신유복전>은 조선의 영웅이 중국의 국난을 타개하기 위해 遠征 出戰하여 조선의 국가적 위상을 드높이는 내용이 핵심 서사로 인식되어 ‘국외 원정 영웅소설’로 불리어왔다. 실제로 <신유복전> 서사의 방점은 신유복의 영웅적 면모와 깊은 관련을 맺고 있다. 그런데 흥미롭게도 <신유복전>의 이본 중에는 전혀 다른 題名을 사용한 <천정연분>이라는 작품이 있다. 본고에서는 이러한 題名의 차이가 이본의 변화에 어떠한 영향을 주었는지 살펴보기 위해 <신유복전>과 <천정연분>의 서사 전개 양상을 정리하고, 그 중 중요한 차이를 보이는 부분들을 중심으로 직접 비교를 하였다. 작품의 초반부를 비교해본 결과는 다음과 같다. <신유복전>은 신유복이라는 영웅의 출현을 기대하고 또 영웅이 되기 전까지의 고난을 자세하게 서술하여 그의 영웅적 면모를 극대화하려는 경향을 보인다. 즉 일반적인 영웅의 서사를 충실히 따르고 있다. 반면 <천정연분>은 신유복의 영웅적 면모를 의식하고 서사를 전개하기보다는 ‘가족 구성원의 죽음으로 인한 가족 구조의 해체’, ‘이경패의 신유복에 대한 자발적 호의’에 더 주목하고 있다. 남녀의 결연과 가족의 서사를 중시하는 것이다. 본고에서는 두 작품의 초반부만 비교하였으나 중후반부 또한 이와 비슷한 변이 양상을 보인다. 後考를 통해 중후반부 비교를 진행하여 작품 전체에 드러나는 이본 변이 양상을 도출하고자 한다.

Basically <Sinyubokjeon(신유복전)> is one of the heroic novel including the story of subjugating the savages. But the leading of this novel is not from China but from Chosun, otherwise almost leading of heroic novel is from China though the novel was created in Chosun. And the leading from Chosun is called to the emperor of China, then conduct the war against savages, and win the war. By the way, there is a different edtion of <Sinyubokjeon>, called <Cheon—jeongyeonbun(천정연분)>. <Sinyubokjeon> means the biography of "Sinyubok(신유복)" in Korean, <Cheonjeongyeonbun> means the "match made in heaven" in Korean. Between the title of different edition, there is a great difference in meaning. So, this paper took notice of the difference between two editions. As a result, this paper made certain that <Cheonjeongyeonbun> tried to change the main subject from the narrative of hero to the narrative of family and love. This change is cognate the literary and novel trend of the early part of 20 century.
