Hanji for writing and drawing has durability. It is made of mulberry fibers, which is a long fiber, and demonstrates high preservation as it is manufactured under neutral or alkaline conditions. However, there is currently a Korean industrial standard, KS M 7707, for Hanji used for writing and drawing, it does not specify a detailed description of the factors, that affect the characteristics of Hanji, which can cause confusion regarding the materials and manufacturing methods. Therefore, this study aims to present a basis for the quality reli- ability of Hanji for writing and drawing and to review the quality standard of KS M 7707. In this work, the samples of Hanji for writing and drawing were selected, and their physi- cal, optical, and chemical properties in accordance with the current quality standards were evaluated. From the analysis, the results of this study were found hardly consistent in the range of weight, thickness, and strength values with the current quality standard except for color difference and pH, and there were also unreasonable parts for the units. There- fore, it was determined that the quality current standard needs to revise. It is believed that it can be used as basic data to establish more specific and accurate quality standards for current standard through quality analysis of Hanji for writing and drawing.
