『조선출판경찰월보』를 통해서 고찰한 일제강점기 단행본 소설 출판 검열의 양상

Aspects of Japanese colonial rule censorship of novels published books in Chosun Gyoengchal Wolbo(The Publication Police Monthly of Korea)

조선출판경찰월보는 조선총독부 출판경찰에 의해 1928년 9월부터 1938년 11월까지 발행된 비밀 검열 자료이다. 현재 12권을 제외한 전체 111권의 자료가 전해지는데, 여기에는 식민지 시기 일제의 출판 검열 기록이 고스란히 남아있다. 특히 단행본 정보의 경우 출판 금지 목록을 통해 출간되지 못한 서적들의 제목과 발행인, 발행소, 금지 사유 등이 이 자료에 상세하게 기록되어있다는 특징이 있다. 출판 금지 처분 때문에 발행되지 못한 단행본 목록 가운데에는 최소 30여 편의 출판 금지 소설들의 정보와 금지 사유가 기록되어있으며, 이 목록 중 상당수는 현재까지 출간이 확인되지 않는 새로운 작품들이다. 본고는 이 같은 소설들을 대상으로 그 발행인과 발행소, 출판 금지 사유 등을 추적하였으며, 그 결과 많은 수의 작품들이 반제국주의와 사회주의적 성격을 이유로 검열되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 치안 방해, 풍속 괴란 등의 이유로 출간되지 못한 소설들의 존재가 확인된 것이다. 이 소설들의 존재는 일제강점기 한국소설사의 부족한 부분을 채워줄 단초로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

Chosun Gyoengchal Wolbo was published by the police of the Government-General of Chosun. This materials were published from September 1928 to November 1938. Except for 12 , 111 remains showed censorship in publishing at the time of the colonial period. The detailed records of censorship were left on book list of disallowance in this material that had being done for over 10 years. Abandoned novels in the list of books by censorship were more than 30, the new novels had not been identified in the Korean literature. This paper tracked the writer and publisher of the disallowance list. The disallowance novel list shows the reality of the banned novel that has not published for criticism of the anti-imperialist and colonial reality. Above all, some novels in the disallowance list were rejected publication for policing violations and obscenity violations. These novels can be used to supplement the Korean literature of the colonial period.
