본 연구는 웹소설 최초 선택과 유료 구독에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하여 초보 작가가 전문 웹소설 작가로 성장하는데 필요한 연재 지침을 제공하고 웹소설이 건전한 문화콘텐츠 산업으로 지속해서 발전하는데 필요한 초석을 마련하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 전문 웹소설 작가와 독자를 설문 조사하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 직관적인 작품 제목과 조회 수가 최초 구독에 영향을 미치며 가독성을 고려한 단문 형태의 문장으로 몰입감과 성취, 대리만족의 스토리텔링을 제공하고 유료 연재 전환 직전까지 조회 수를 최대한 끌어올려야 하며 유료 전환 후에는 반드시 연재 주기를 지켜야 지속적인 구독을 유발할 수 있음을 알았다. 본 연구는 스토리텔링보다 연재와 집필의 기술적인 면에 치우친 한계가 있지만, 초보 작가가 독자의 지속적 구독을 이끌어내기 위해 필요한 기술적인 측면을 밝혔다. 이를 통해 많은 초보 작가가 전문 웹소설 작가로 성장하고 웹소설이 더욱 발전하는 문화콘텐츠 산업이 되기를 기대한다.
The purpose of this study is to analyze those factors that affect the initial selection of web novels and paid subscriptions with a view to providing guidelines for serialization necessary for a novice writer to grow into a professional web novel writer, and preparing a cornerstone necessary for web novels to continuously develop into a healthy cultural content industry. To that end, questionnaire surveys were conducted with professional web novel writers and readers and the results were analyzed. As a result, it was found that intuitive titles and view counts affect the initial subscription, that the storytelling that leads to immersion, achievement, and surrogate satisfaction should be provided with short form sentences considering readability, that view counts should be maximally raised until immediately before the conversion into paid serialization, and that the period of serialization should be kept without fail after conversion into paid serialization to induce continuous subscription. Although this study has a limitation that it leaned toward the technical aspects of serialization and writing rather than storytelling, it revealed the technical aspects necessary for a novice writer to elicit readers" continuous subscriptions. Through the foregoing, it is expected that many novice writers can grow into professional web novel writers and web novels can become a cultural content industry that develops further.
