본 연구에서는 일본 외무성의 외교 사료관에서 소장하고 있는 『한국(조선)에 있어서의 학교 관계 잡건(보조금 지출의 건)』에 대해 개관하고, 제1의 을권의 분석을 중심으로 한국 근대기의 일본어 교육 기관이었던 관립 인천 일어학교에 대해 운영과 교육 내용을 중심으로 고찰하였다. 1895년 6월, 「관립 외국어학교」의 지교로 설립이 된 관립 인천 일어학교는 본교에 비해 열악한 재정적 지원 아래에서 운영되었으며, 교사 이와사키 고타로[岩崎厚太郎]와 일본 영사의 지속적인 노력으로 받은 일본 외무성으로부터의 보조금이 커다란 역할을 하였던 것으로 보인다. 한국의 관립 외국어학교의 하나였던 인천 일어학교의 설립과 운영에 있어 일본의 지속적인 자금 지원과 일본인의 역할이 두드러졌다는 사실은 근대 한국의 교육에 있어 일본의 영향이 적지 않았다는 것을 시사하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 연구에서 다루어진 적이 없는 없는 『한국(조선)에 있어서의 학교 관계 잡건(보조금 지출의 건)』을 발굴하였고, 한국의 언어 교육사적인 관점에서 상기 자료를 객관적으로 검토하여 근대 한국에서 운영된 관립 외국어학교 중 한곳인 관립 인천 일어학교의 운영 실태와 교육 모습을 규명하였다. 본 연구에서 사용된 1차 자료와 그 고찰 내용이 후속 연구에도 널리 활용될 수 있기를 기대해 본다.
This study aims to provide an overview of the "miscellaneous school-related affairs in Korea ; subsidy expenditures" of the official Incheon Japanese Language School, the details of which are housed in the diplomatic archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. It also aims to investigate the operational and educational contents of the school, which was a Japanese language institution in modern Korea. In June 1895, the official Incheon Japanese Language School, which was established as a subsidiary of the “Official Foreign Language Schools,” began operation with poor financial support compared to the principal school , and with the subsidy received through the persistent efforts of a teacher, Iwasaki Kotaro [岩崎厚太郎] and the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which appears to have played a significant role in its establishment. The continuous funding from Japan and the prominent role of the Japanese in the establishment and operation of the official Incheon Japanese School in Korea suggests that Japan"s influence on modern Korean education was not negligible.
