본 연구는 우리나라 사이버불링의 실태를 조사하여, 사이버불링이 피해 청소년의 비행행동에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 탐구하는데 목적이 있다. Agnew(1992)의 일반긴장이론(General Strain Theory: GST)에 따르면, 한 개인이 타인으로부터 학대나 부당한 대우를 지속적으로 받게 되면 심리적 불안, 긴장, 우울감 등의 부정적 감정이 생겨나게 되고, 그 불안과 좌절감을 없애기 위해 비행행위와 같은 부적응 행동을 보일 가능성이 크다. 이에 본 연구는 일반긴장이론(GST)을 틀로 하여 최근 새롭게 대두되고 있는 청소년 사이버불링(cyberbullying) 문제를 다루면서 실제 사이버불링 피해경험이 피해자의 비행행동에 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고, 동시에 우울감이 두 변인 사이의 매개변수로 작용하는지 검토하는데 초점을 둔다. 본 연구는 사이버불링의 실태를 조사하기 위해 학교폭력을 크게 “(1)사이버불링, (2)전통적 불링, (3)사이버불링과 전통적 불링 함께 발생, (4)피해 없음”이라는 네 가지로 형태로 구분한다. 우울감을 매개변수로 놓고 사이버불링이 청소년의 비행행동에 미치는 영향을 살펴보는데, 2단계 다중회귀분석과 Sobel test를 활용한다. 연구 자료는 2012년 5월 29일부터 약 보름 동안 서울시내 초․중․고생(2,044명)을 대상으로 한 설문 데이터를 바탕으로 한다. 분석 결과, 전체의 17.8%가 학교폭력 피해를 경험한 것으로 나타났고, 이 중 오프라인 상의 전통적 불링을 경험한 학생이 전체의 13.8%, 사이버 불링을 경험한 학생이 전체의 1.4%, 그리고 두 가지 불링을 모두 경험한 학생이 전체의 2.6%인 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 Sobel test 결과, 우울감이라는 요인이 사이버 불링 피해경험과 비행행동 사이에서 완전매개 효과를 가지는 보이는 나타났다. 즉, 본 연구를 통해 사이버 불링 피해경험이 청소년의 비행행동을 직접적으로 유발하는 것이 아니라 간접적으로 우울감을 유발시켜 문제행동을 불러일으키는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 향후 사이버 불링 피해 청소년에 대한 심리적, 정서적 상담 치료 외에 장기적인 차원의 피해자 비행행동 방지 대책이 필요하고, 향후 피해자-가해자 전이 현상에 대한 체계적인 연구가 필요하다고 하겠다.
This study aims at investigating the prevalence of cyber bullying and the impact of cyber bullying on the delinquent behaviors among cyber bullying victims. Cyber bullying has become a serious issues in South Korean since smart phone, internet, new electronic means, and social network services such as Kakaotalk was extensively used in South Korea. In this context, cyber bullying aggravates traditional school violence techniques in terms of power imbalance between bullies and victims, repeated threat, and psychological control. However, the negative effect of cyber bullying on problematic behaviors of victims has not fully tested. The experience of cyber bullying victim may be more detrimental and severe to victims compared to traditional bullying victim experience, due to the increased level of intrusiveness, circulation, and anonymity of cyber space. The current study conducted survey toward 2,044 students about 15 days in Seoul, Korea from May to June in 2012. The sample group consisted of 386 elementary school students, 633 middle school students, and 1,025 high school students. The data was statistically analyzed by SPSS package program 21.0. by utilizing ANOVA, multi-regression analysis, and Sobel test in order to find the impact of cyber bulling on the delinquent behavior of cyber bullying victims. In particular, the present study focused on detecting mediating effect of depression on the delinquent behaviors of victims. The result demonstrated that approximately 4% of participants had experienced cyber bullying victim. Furthermore, the second stage multi regression analysis showed that students who had experienced cyber bullying victim were more likely to commit delinquent behavior than youth who had not experienced bullying when depression variable functioned as mediating factor. Further policy implications will be discussed.
