고등학교 운동장에서의 젠더관계: 신체활동의 주변화와 중심화를 야기하는 배치의 분석

Gender relations in playground of highschool: An analysis of disposition for (re)producing the marginalization and centralization of physical activity

이 연구는 체육수업이 이루어지는 운동장에서 젠더에 따라 중심화와 주변화가 어떠한 배치요소에 의해 나타나는지를 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 스포츠에서의 주변화 모델(남상우, 2008)을 인식론적 배경으로, D광역시의 P고등학교를 연구 장소로 하여 그들의 수업과 학교에서 벌어지는 다양한 상호작용을 관찰하였다. 그 결과 우리는 남성다움과 여성다움을 구분짓는 젠더성향, 적극적 신체활동에 대한 욕구, ‘열심히 하는’ 노력의 가치, 주류가 행하는 행위로의 편입 그리고 뛰어난 운동기술 등을 ‘이익’의 요소로 제시하며, 이를 한계, 여백 그리고 주변의 측면에서 논의하였다. 한계화는 체육수업에서 교사와 학생 사이에서 일어나는 다양한 상호작용과 남학생들이 유포하는 담론적 실천에 의해 견고해지는 것으로 나타났고, 여백화는 교사나 학교행정에서의 의사결정 주체들이 여학생의 신체활동에 대한 몰이해를 통해 그들의 신체활동을 증진할 수 있는 논의가 이루어지지 못하는 과정을 통해 드러났으며, 마지막으로 주변화는 주류집단이 ‘우리와 다른 그들’이라는 차이요소와 ‘우리에게 없는 그 무엇’이라는 결핍요소를 인식하면서 비(非)주류 집단이 ‘스스로’ 운동장 외곽으로 물러나도록 강제하는 실천을 통해 나타났다.

This paper tries to analyze how centralization and marginalization can be occurred in the playground as to gender and its disposition. For this purpose, we observed various interactions among students and teachers on PE class at P high school in D metropolitan city with the epistemological background of the model for marginalization in sports. As a result, we found gender orientation distinguishing masculinity and femininity, the value of effort, incorporation into majority behaviors, and high-level performance as "profit" properties. With these causal properties, we discuss limitation, spacing, and peripherization in regard with how these could be produced in the marginalization properties. The limitation was revealed though various interactions among teachers and students and discursive practices disseminated by boys. The spacing was shown by the ways in which PE teachers and making-decision personnel in school administration have a lacking in understanding why girls in school need to be physically active. Lastly, the peripherization was disclosed by major group in PE class recognize the differentiating and deficient factors compared with minor group and coerce them to be marginal on playground.
