Based on the typology of power suggested by French and Raven, this study identified four types of power health PR practitioners believed they hold in their organizations. The results suggest health PR practitioners believe they have Media Expert and Health Expert powers within their organizations. Extensive experience in health PR field was a significant predictor of Health Expert power. However, they do not believe they have Coercive and Reward powers in their organizations. Additionally, this study examined the effect of three internal contingent factors (organizational, PR department, and dominant coalition characteristics) on the perceived power of PR in the organization. Findings suggest that these internal factors are more closely related to power in the organization than power in media relations.
