상담심리사의 수퍼비전 경험에 대한 질적 분석

A Phenomenological Investigation of Counselors" Experience in Supervision: An Application of the Grounded Theory

Supervision is crucial and instrumental for a counselor to become a professional in practice. Nine counselors were interviewed and the interview data were analyzed based on a grounded theory approach to form a conceptual understanding of counselors" experience in supervision. Counselors reported that they perceived supervision as a learning process through which they developed case conceptualization skills, counseling process skills, and self-awareness. Causal conditions involved the supervision requirement for acquiring a certificate and a long-term relationship with one supervisor. Intervening conditions concerned the supervision method, supervision focus, and supervisors" attitudes toward supervisees. Contextual conditions lied in supervisees" voluntary choice of supervisors and a hierarchical relationship between supervisor and supervisee. It is suggested that the participants became competent as a counselor, but felt unprepared as a supervisor based on their supervision experience. The implications of the current study were discussed.

본 연구는 상담자들이 수퍼비전에서 어떤 경험을 하고 있는지 이해하기 위해 상담심리사 1급 자격증 소지자 9명을 면접하고, 녹음된 면접의 축어록을 근거이론 방법으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 수퍼비전에서 상담자가 경험하는 중심현상은 학습경험이었고, 상담심리사 자격 규정에 개인수퍼비전이 포함되어 있는 것과 한 수퍼바이저와의 지속적인 만남이 인과적 조건으로 작용하였다. 중심현상인 학습경험의 하위범주로는 사례개념화, 상담과정기술, 상담자의 자기이해가 도출되었고, 이 학습경험 안에서 상담자는 수퍼바이저의 가르침을 절대적으로 수용하고, 다른 의견 및 부정적 감정에 대해서는 침묵하는 작용/상호작용 전략을 사용하였다. 맥락적 조건으로는 상담자가 수퍼바이저를 선택하는 것과 상담자와 수퍼바이저 사이의 상하관계가, 중재적 조건으로는 수퍼비전의 도구, 수퍼비전의 초점, 수퍼바이저의 태도가 제시되었다. 다양한 조건들의 상호작용과 중심현상을 통해 상담심리사는 자신이 유능한 상담자로 성장하였지만, 수퍼바이저로서는 준비가 되지 않았다고 보고하였다. 연구결과는 상담자, 수퍼바이저, 그리고 한국 상담계의 사회문화적 특성과 관련하여 논의되었고, 연구의 제한점과 후속연구에 대한 제안이 제시되었다.
