Scholars have explained the Restoration Movement of Koguryo(高句麗) primarily in conjunction with Ansung(安勝) and Kommojam(劍牟岑). Accordingly, relatively little attention has been paid to the restoration army of Koyeonmu(高延武). Their activities were comprehended only within the context of relationship between Ansung, Kommonjam and Shilla(新羅). However, this essay shows that Koyeonmu’s restoration army had broken away from Andon Protectorate since 699, starting independent operations around Hansong area. In 670, Koyeonmu’s army participated in the battle of Ohgolseong(烏骨城) as an ally of Shilla. Later, together with Ansung and Kommojam, Koyeonmu played important roles in establishment of Restoration Koguryo at Hansong, and provided crucial military functions. Further, when the Restoration Koguryo at Hansong were undergoing a series of crisis by assassination of Kommojam and defection of Ansung to Shilla in the mid-670s, Koyeonmu continued the Koguryo-Tang War in north of the Korean peninsula until late 673. Hence, it can be argued that significance of Koyeonmu’s restoration army were substantial within the Restoration Movement of Koguryo in north of the Korean peninsula.
