스토리텔링을 활용한 속담 교육 방안

Teaching Methods of Korean Proverbs by Using Storytelling

This study aims to seek an effective proverb education method using storytelling in Korean proverb education for foreign learners. Proverbs are closely associated with emotions, values and culture of people in communal life of a country. In a word, proverbs are to compress culture of the country into short sentences. Learning language is related to learning not only letters but also culture. Therefore, proverbs help in learning language and culture, at the same time. Therefore, this study started from a consideration on a more effective teaching method for foreign learners, who have a difficulty understanding meanings of Korean proverbs. Using storytelling for teaching proverbs enables foreign learners to understand meanings of proverbs more easily and interestingly by providing stories that are closely related to proverbs. Based on this study, further research will be conducted to prove the learning effect of Korean proverb education using storytelling on proverb comprehension in learners.

본 연구는 외국인 학습자를 대상으로 하는 교육에서 스토리텔링을 활용하여 효과적인 속담 교육 방안을 살피는 것을 목적으로 한다. 속담은 한 나라의 공동체적 삶 속에서 사람들의 정서와 가치관 그리고 문화와 밀접한 관련이 있다. 한마디로 그 나라의 문화를 짧은 문장 안에 압축시켜 놓은 것이라고 할 수 있다. 언어를 배운다는 것은 글자를 익히는 것에 그치는 것이 아니라 문화까지도 익히는 것이다. 따라서 속담을 통해 언어뿐만 아니라 문화도 익힐 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 한국어 속담에 내포된 의미 이해를 어려워하는 외국인 학습자에게 어떤 방법으로 교수해야 좀 더 효과적일지에 대한 고민에서 출발하였다. 속담을 교수할 때 스토리텔링을 활용하여 목표 속담과 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있는 이야기를 먼저 접하게 함으로써 속담이 전하고자 하는 내포된 의미를 좀 더 쉽고 흥미롭게 받아들일 수 있도록 하는 것이다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 스토리텔링을 한국어 속담 교육에 활용한 수업이 학습자가 속담을 이해하는데 어느 정도 효과가 있는지에 대한 후속 연구를 진행하여 학습 효과를 입증할 것이다.
