It is important to maintain people"s morale in a national total war(國家總力戰). Silla Kingdom that opposed huge power had to be uneasy though Silla Kingdom"s doing the preemptive attack(先制攻擊). Having appeared at this time is the Mundra Secret Magic(文豆婁 秘法) of Myeongrang(明朗) at once. The enforcement of the Mundra Secret Magic and sinking of Dang"s navy are recorded only in The Heritage of the Three States(三國遺事). And, credibility has been doubted. However, it expanded, it exaggerated, and it was recorded the actual generation of the point where the marine environment in the West Sea(西海) at that time and the probability of occurrence of the storm were high when running. At that time, the place on which Dang"s navy had chiefly acted was a northern part of the Kyeonggi Bay(京畿灣). Kyeonggi Bay is a point where the current(潮流) is the fastest in the West Sea, and the difference of the tidewater(潮差) is a large point. And, islands are more than China and the waterway is complex points. As for Silla Kingdom, information on Dang Dynasty was collected continuing, and it knew the weak point of Dang"s navy well though 670 years and 671 years were time where the wind had blown strongly. The enforcement of the Mundra Secret Magic and sinking of Dang"s navy became a good chance that the enemy was hit without fighting and it became an opportunity taken off, and the public sentiment was able to be brought together in one in Silla Kingdom. In Myeongrang, the opportunity when own sect(宗派) was able to be expanded was prepared, and a definite role was done to the construction of the Sachenwangsa(四天王寺). The success in the Mundra Secret Magic was a combination work of the governing body of Silla Kingdom and Myeongrang.
국가 총력전에 있어서는 국민들의 사기를 유지하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 나당전쟁은 신라의 요동 선제공격으로 시작되었지만, 초강대국인 당의 세력에 맞선 신라군과 신라민은 두려워할 수밖에 없었다. 이러한 나당전쟁 개전초기(670~671)에 등장한 것이 바로 명랑법사의 문두루 비법이다. 문두루 비법의 시행과 당 수군의 침몰에 관한 내용은『삼국유사』에만 기록되어 있고 설화적 요소가 강해서, 역사적 사실로 받아들이기에는 어려움이 많았다. 그러나 본고에서 살펴본 바에 의하면,『삼국유사』의 기록은 당시 실제 발생한 사건을 확대·과장한 것으로 이해할 수 있다. 당시 당의 수군은 경기만 북부일대에 정박·활동하고 있었는데, 경기만 일대는 서해에서 조류가 가장 빠르고, 조차가 세계적으로 큰 곳이다. 그리고 여러 물길이 모여들어 수로가 복잡하고, 중국에 비해 섬이 많아 항해가 곤란한 지역이다. 특히 670년과 671년에는 바람이 강하게 불던 시기여서 좌초의 위험이 상당히 높았다. 신라는 당에 관한 정보를 지속적으로 수집하여 당 수군의 취약점을 잘 알고 있었고, 이에 대응하여 방어계획을 수립하였다. 이 과정에서 문두루 비법을 시행하였는데, 당의 수군은 실제로 침몰하게 되었다. 이에 따라 신라는 나당전쟁 초기에 서해의 제해권을 장악할 수 있었다. 문두루 비법의 시행과 당 수군의 침몰은 신라 수뇌부에 있어서는 적과 직접 싸우지 않아도 되는 한편, 민심을 수습할 수 있는 계기가 되었다. 그리고 명랑법사에 있어서는 사천왕사 건립을 추진하고 신인종을 확대할 수 있는 좋은 기회였다. 즉 문두루 비법의 성공은 신라 수뇌부와 명랑법사의 합작품이었던 것이다.
