e-Science for High Energy Physics in Taiwan and Asia

The newly arisen e-Science or data-intensive science is capable of unifying theory, experiment and simulation by using data exploration tools to link the network of scientists with their dataset and results analyzed by using a shared computing infrastructure. High energy physics applications are generally regarded as a driver to develop this global e-Science infrastructure. Challenges of e-Science development in Asia include the divergence of networking infrastructure, production e-infrastructure operation, close interaction with the user community, and the collaboration culture. As the global e-Science infrastructure is being established quickly, we have to take advantage of the progress by addressing the challenges of regional cooperation in the Asia Pacific region. The work to promote collaboration in e-Science and scientific research between Europe and Asia and within Asia itself will be presented. By leveraging the existing application communities and infrastructure created by WLCG/EGEE (Worldwide Large Hadron Collider Computing Grid project and Enabling Grid for E-sciencE project) and EUAsiaGrid projects, many regional collaborations are participating with real benefits such as biomedical, disaster mitigation, e-social sciences, computational chemistry, high energy physics and digital archives, etc.
