This paper aims to summarize the theories of the essence of novels in the West and Korea, and to identify the types of Korean novels based on these theories. Over the years, foreign theories have often been referenced in discussing contemporary Korean novels. However, it is doubtful whether these theories have been appropriately used to date contemporary Korean novels. Therefore, this thesis proposes a total of 18 propositions about the essence of novels, and introduces the works which have been mainly discussed in Korean novels.
본 논문은 소설의 본질에 관한 서구 및 한국 내의 이론을 정리하고, 이러한 이론을 기반으로 한국소설의 유형을 일별하는 데 목적을 둔다. 그간 한국현대소설 작품을 논의하는 데 있어서 외국의 이론은 자주 참조되곤 했다. 그러나 이러한 이론이 한국현대소설 작품을 일별하는 데 과연 적절하게 활용되었는지는 의문이다. 그에 따라 본 논문은 총 18가지의 소설본질에 관한 명제를 도출하여, 한국소설사에서 주요하게 거론되어왔던 작품들을 그에 도입하여 설명하였다.
