Finding each appropriate figurative language is the key to the successful definition of basic color terms in the Korean language dictionary. To do this, word association experiment enable us to survey responsive languages for each color language. Responsive languages showing high response rateto these experiminents can be regarded as a prototype of a specific color term. This study surveyed responsive languages for basic color languages in 200 subjects, and selected figurative languages, considering other conditions. In conclusion, to define color languages in the Korean language dictionary, it is considered suitable to select blood for red, sea and sky for blue, forsythia and chick for yellow, snow for white, and night and briquette for black as their respective figurative languages.
