대전입자형 전자종이의 계조표현 방법에 관한 연구

A Study on Grayscale Presentation Method for Charged Particle Type Electronic Paper

We propose a grayscale presentation method adapted with the reflective type display which has more strong points than the most emissive type display at the fabrication cost, power consumption, and easy viewing. In this study we designe cell electrodes separated with 4 electrodes, fabricated the panel with multi-electrode mask, and estimate the driving properties in charged particle type display. The linear characteristics are ascertained by reflectivity measurement using RT-200, which is induced by exact arithmetic partition for cell electrode. The results of our study is applicable to the mass production of electronic paper, if this method is combined with the pulse width modulation which is used as a grayscale presentation in charged particle type electronic paper.

제조비용, 소비전력, 시인성 등에서 대부분의 스스로 광을 방출하는 자발광 디스플레이보다 우수한 장점을 가진 반사형 디스플레이에 적합한 계조표현 방법을 제안한다. 본 연구에서는 전하를 띤 입자를 사용하는 이른바 대전입자형 전자종이의 계조표현을 위하여 하나의 셀전극을 4개의 전극으로 분할하여 설계하고 논리를 확인하고, 제작된 멀티전극 마스크로부터 패널을 제작하고 구동특성을 평가한다. RT-200을 이용한 반사율 측정으로 선형성을 확인하였는 바 이는 산술적으로 명확하게 활성영역이 구분할 수 있기 때문이다. 기존의 계조표현으로 대전입자형 전자종이에 적용되고 있는 펄스폭 변조방법과 결합할 경우 대량생산에 응용될 수 있다.
