In this paper, the generalized synchronization (GS) of two identical chaotic systems through a channel with unknown channel characteristics, is studied. First, theoretical results providing conditions for the GS with unknown channel characteristics are presented. Then, the GS transformation for linear case, which is invertible, is given. Examples of the GS through nonlinear static and dynamic channels are also given. It is shown that the GS schemes can be used in chaotic secure communication which is channel independent. Here, channel independence means that the proposed chaotic secure communication scheme can work under different unknown channel conditions. Simulation results using Chua"s circuit and the Lorenz system are presented.
